In the (hopefully) safe space that is non-recorded Zooms, I will be hosting weekly WIP (work-in-progress) sessions most Wednesdays at 12 noon UK time (calculate your timezone here), starting 20th May 2026.
Each author can read up to 2,000 words, in one or more pieces. Although they vary per genre, I recommend novel chapters are no more than 2,000 words so everyone can read a complete piece each week.
The sessions last as long as there are writers wanting to share their work but no more than 90 minutes, so finishing by 1.30pm.
There are only five guest places each week and you will need to register to reserve one of those places. See Zoom link below. If you are unable to make the session, please cancel your place to free up a place for someone else. Thank you!
They will take place every Wednesday up to 12th August (when I will be at Swanwick Summer Writing School – will I see you there?), resuming 26th August then most Wednesdays thereafter.
The idea is that you can read your works in progress, whether that’s a short story, flash fiction, poem, novel extract, synopsis, blurb, whatever you’re working on and would like feedback on.
This will differ from Short Story (& Poetry) Saturdays as that’s for reading pieces, published or otherwise, then chatting about the inspiration and what we liked about it… and some feedback but not as in-depth as these sessions.
Wednesday WIPs is for others to pull your work apart, as in-person critique groups do.
Please do bring a tough skin with you as constructive feedback is vital for knowing what doesn’t quite work. We know what we mean by something but does someone else?
These sessions will not be recorded so please make notes on the feedback of your pieces. These will be closed sessions and NO participant is to share any of the other writers’ works outside of this group without written permission from the relevant writer.
