Pam Arland

Pam is currently working on her first novel, a contemporary novel with strong female leads. Pam joined us for the following Sunday 13th September 2026 all-day online festival panel

    • 9.30am-10.30am: characters: How do you choose your characters? Are they based on someone you know? Do any of them share your traits? How do you make your characters distinctive? How much detail do/should you put about them (i.e. Jack Reacher’s tall!)? Do you write characters of a different gender or generation? How many characters do you have in your stories? How do you keep track of them in your notes? Will you make a minor character in an early work more of a prominent character in a future book? Do you have favourite characters in other books/films? Why do you find them memorable?
    • With Morgen hosting, the other authors taking part in this session were: Denise Beddows* ~ Pam Arland ~ Phil Oddy* ~ Terry Pierelli *who also read a short extract from the openings of one of their books.

  • If you’d like to take part (in any of these events or in another way, e.g. moderate a panel, provide your expertise, or volunteer at our in-person festivals) email me, Morgen or see the Participate page. If you’d like to simply watch ~ see the relevant pages for the Zoom links and passcodes should they be required.
