Richard Kyson

Richard Kyson will be joining us for the 2pm Non-fiction panel at the 26 Apr 2026 Festival to talk about the book he’s written about his father.

‘Living with MND – My Dad’ is a also series of heartfelt blog posts on Medium and a published book by Richard, documenting his father’s battle with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) and offering support, awareness, and practical tips for families facing the condition, highlighting the emotional toll, the need for equipment like stairlifts and shower chairs, and the importance of family support, with all profits from the book going to MND charities.

Richard shares the heartbreaking reality of watching his proud, selfless father struggle with physical decline, loss of independence, and the emotional challenges of adapting to care.

The posts detail adapting the home with a stairlift and shower conversion, using specific CPAP masks for better sleep, and finding essential aids to improve quality of life, reducing pain and distress.

The project aims to help others realise they aren’t alone, raising awareness about the devastating, relentless nature of MND and the impact on families, noted Richard Kyson.

The story emphasizes the crucial role of family and friends, with Richard connecting with others through the MND Association forums and sharing his experiences.

Profits from the sales of ‘Living with MND – My Dad’ are equally split between the MND Association and the MyName5Doddie Foundation. Doddie Weir provides a foreword in the book.
